Dear Pasadena City Council,
It has been recently brought to my attention that
the Raymond Theatre (aka Perkins Palace) is in
danger of being demolished. Why? Sources say because
a new development deal to build a 65 unit apartment
building is in the works. This MUST be stopped! The
Raymond Theatre is a prize historical landmark with
an impressive 80 year history of live entertainment,
i.e., vaudeville, dramatic and comedy theatre,
classical, blues, jazz, folk music and rock n' roll.
It should be preserved and nurtured into the future,
as it is one of California's few original theatres
of it's kind. It must be allowed to remain available
to the public and artists for generations to come.
I'm surprised that the Pasadena City Council is even
considering letting this transaction become a
reality! Has the Pasadena City Council discussed
this with the community or is there still not enough
opposition against this redevelopment proposal to
make a difference?
Anyway, I can say from my own experience, that the
Raymond Theatre is one of the BEST venues of it
kind, hands down. Two of the most memorable shows of
my career were performed there back in the late
1980's. I would hate to think that myself and
countless others will no longer be able to enjoy it
again.
Please save the Raymond Theatre!
Sincerely,
Slash
